After a life changing experience, Laura Butler left a career in marketing and retail management and returned to her native Southern California, to focus on the passion she’s kept on the back burner since college—writing and directing.

Butler’s first feature-length screenplay, THE COLUMNIST, placed third in the American Screenwriters Association International competition, she followed that success with three short films: GUEST OF THE BRIDE, SEVERE IN SAVANAGH, and BELOW THE BELT.

Following a summer run of two plays directed by Butler at the Complex Theater in Los Angeles, she focused her efforts on bringing her dream of an internet based web network of episodic series to fruition.

Today, the SecondPenny website hosts five of Butler’s concept series; MASSELIN HOUSE, PORN KING, THE NEXT TOWN, SHE SUCKS!, and RETURN. In addition, Butler penned the scripts, TOP TO BOTTOM, EL MONTE EXPRESS, and SECOND TERM. She co-wrote the feature AN HONEST MAN’S WAS with Cary Tusan.

SECRETS OF THE SON, a Butler script, is SecondPenny’s first feature. Rosemary Marks-Carr (THIRTEEN, THE VIRGIN OF JUAREZ), is attached to produce wit hAdrian Carr directing.
